This is the third set of general questions of IELTS Speaking Part 1 with some great example answers. If you wish to earn your desired band score in the speaking module, you need to start with a great impression on the examiner’s mind and part 1 is the best place to do it. This is possible by practicing the general questions over and over again. Here are some topic-based questions with model answers for Speaking part 1, which, I think, will assist you a lot in your IELTS Speaking preparation. You can always add to or change the answer according to your situation.
Weather

- What’s the weather like in your country?
- Example answer: The weather in my country is quite pleasant. We have a temperate climate, so it’s never boiling hot in the summer or freezing cold in the winter.
- Does the weather affect your mood?
- Example answer: Yes, indeed. When it’s a very hot day or night, I feel extremely tired and I have a bad mood. The opposite happens when it’s cold.
- How do rainy days make you feel?
- Example answer: I really like a rainy day. It always sets my mood in a good way. I enjoy raindrops and the sound it creates. It’s almost like music. But I don’t like heavy rainfall at all.
- What’s your favorite season of the year?
- Example answer: My favorite season of the year is rainy season/ monsoon season.
- What do you like to do when it’s hot?
- Example answer: When it’s very hot, I like to go to any big pond or lake nearby with my friends and bathe in the cool water. It’s really refreshing.
- What do you usually do in the winter?
- Example answer: In the winter I usually go on short vacations to different parts of the country if there is less or no snowfall. Nature decorates itself in a completely new way in this season and different parts of the country look amazing.
- How many seasons does your country have?
- Example answer: In my country, there are usually 4 seasons, namely summer, rainy season, autumn and winter.
Travel

- Do you like to travel?
- Example answer: Yes, I do. It’s one of my hobbies.
- What kind of places have you visited in your life?
- Example answer: I’ve visited a number of places in my life. I went to India last year. Before that, I made a trip to Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives. When I was young, I went to the US and Canada with my family.
- Which place would you really like to visit? Why?
- Example answer: I would really like to visit Some exotic places in Europe and Central Asia. I heard about them so much and recently some of my friends have been there. They have told me about the places. It sounds really interesting.
- What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?
- Example answer: I must say that the best place I’ve ever visited is Delhi and Agra of India. I’ve seen the Tajmahal and I can confirm that no other building in the world is as beautiful as the Taj. I’ll always remember my visit to India.
- What are some places that you would like to travel to in the future?
- Example answer: To be honest, I’d like to see the whole world if that would be possible. I really want to visit Italy, Switzerland, New Zealand, South Africa, Hawaii, etc.
Tourism

- Which places in your country would you recommend to a visitor?
- Example answer: I would recommend the southern parts of my country due to its wonderful location with lots of lakes and coastal areas. There is a big forest there which attracts many tourists. The seaside also looks exotic and anyone can enjoy lots of activities there.
- Do a lot of tourists visit your country?
- Example answer: Yes, every year a lot of tourists from different parts of the world visit our country.
- What do they usually do there?
- Example answer: Most of them usually come here just for relaxation. There are lots of activities they do; such as hiking, boat-rowing, climbing hills, gaming, and so on.
- How has tourism changed your country?
- Example answer: Yes, over the last decade there has been a tremendous change in the tourism industry in my country. At least 20 five-star hotels have been established both by the government and private companies. New rides have been added and many tourist places have been redecorated.
- Is your country expensive for most tourists?
- Example answer: No, on the contrary, I believe it is quite cheap compared to many other countries. The food is extremely cheap and easily or readily available. Travel fare is affordable as well.
- What are some famous landmarks in your country?
- Example answer: Some of the famous landmarks in my country are The Catholic Church of St. Martins, The Kwabili Islands, The Golden Mosque, Hunain Square etc. (Add the names of landmarks from your own country here.)
